User Experience Lead

SocialFlow is seeking an experienced, well-rounded User Experience Lead to join our Product team.  The right candidate for this position will guide the overall user experience of our core product by working with both internal and client stakeholders to develop product architecture and taxonomy, wireframes and other artifacts as needed, as well as visual designs.  They will also conduct ongoing usability testing and will be responsible for integrating feedback into the ongoing development of the product.  Beautiful and intelligent data and information visualization is a huge component of what is critical to making SocialFlow compelling for our clients, as is the ability to streamline and simplify complex application structures.

The UX Lead will work closely with Engineers and our VP of Product Development through all stages of product development. We want someone who has a deep understanding of the design process, loves the iterative nature of how technical products get built, and a passion for continually making things better.

Responsibilities:

  • The UX/interaction designer works with the SocialFlow team as it develops features and applications.
  • The UX/interaction designer forms a design strategy based on user goals, sketches and defines the primary interfaces, creates prototypes and fully realized designs, and effectively communicates interaction and design goals
  • The UX/interaction designer conducts user research (field research and usability tests), models user behaviors (scenarios and personas), develops UIs (wireframes, prototypes, etc.), and contributes to visual design development and critique. This is a very iterative and exploratory process.
  • The UX/interaction designer works closely with the rest of the team to understand the data in SocialFlow, the technology used to deploy SocialFlow, and the business landscape SocialFlow operates in.

Requirements:

  • Ideally, the candidate has demonstrated experience in designing usable web-based interfaces and has been practicing as an UX, Interaction Designer, or Information Architect for at least 5 years.
  • A strong academic background in HCI, Design or a related field.
  • A clear visual design sense and point of view. Great visual design chops.
  • Strong leadership, communication and teamwork skills.
  • Adobe CS, Omnigraffle or equivalent
  • Understanding, if not skills, in HTML, CSS, and Javascript for prototyping purposes.
  • An entrepreneurial disposition and a good sense of humor
  • A portfolio review is required as part of the interview process

Product Engineer

For our next product engineer, seeking someone who likes to create software products and interfaces, link APIs and derive useful applications for data and products that people use and live with every day. We need the kind of person who lives, breathes and hunts down software design and implementation opportunities. An eye to balance the practical with the progressive application of large data sets and massive streams is crucial, as is the work ethic to take several disparate ideas, whittle down to the best one (or two), and drive each home to completion.

The right candidate will be working on one to two critical projects at a time, integrating existing data, and building upon our consistently evolving research to offer exclusive insights and actionable intelligence around vast amounts of social and transactional data. You must be comfortable with writing scalable code that is novel, and solving problems that if they are not new in theory, are new in the application of that theory for commercial software.

This position is on-site in NYC. We’re willing to relocate the right candidate. The position reports to the company’s Principle Architect.

The compensation for the perfect candidate is somewhere between “WOW” and “OMG WTF Sign Me Up”.

Required Skills are:

  • Mutiple data storage methods expertise (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Cassandra, memcached wrappers, Mongo)
  • Multiple scripting languages (Perl, Python, Ruby : at least two) with MVC frameworks
  • Familiarity with Message Queues, Automating tasks on distributed systems

  • Previous work with APIs to build dynamic products

  • Ability to speak on product design principles (why did we do that?, etc)
  • Networking and routing (we move around massive amounts of data)
  • Some C would be helpful, but used rarely
  • CSS and Javascript (jquery) experience
